Overwhelmed. Confused. Embarrassed.

Do those words ever describe your feelings about your child's behavior? Do the same words ever come to mind when thinking of what your child may be feeling?

Children often act out because they may be experiencing new and sometimes really big feelings, and they don't yet have the words to tell you how they're feeling or what they need.

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a form of counseling that helps children learn to

identify, express, and cope with their big feelings. Play provides a

safe psychological distance from their problems and allows

expression of thoughts and feelings appropriate to their

development.

All of the therapists at Happy Hearts Counseling are trained in Play Therapy and integrate methods of play to help children learn to:

  • Communicate with Others
  • Express Feelings
  • Modify Behavior
  • Develop Problem-Solving Skills
  • Practice Self-Control
  • Regulate Emotions
  • Build Self-Esteem

Parent Support

Overwhelmed, confused, embarrassed. Remember those words? How about exhausted, defeated, hopeless? Parenting is hard, and there is not a one-size-fits-all rule book to refer to. When working with children, we also incorporate parenting support and coaching. As we teach your child new skills, we'll also teach you how to reinforce those skills at home. We will work with you to find new ideas for parenting, discipline, and family communication. Let us know what's working, and let us know what's not. We'll work together to find a balance that will work for you, your child, and your family.
